Guardians of Honor: Digital Library
The Louise Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence (LSMCE) is responsible for disseminating information on best practices, tools, and information gathered from the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program offered at participating educational institutes and aimed at supporting and increasing the number of minority students successfully completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines. As they work to coordinate efforts both regionally and nationally, they needed a way to enable effective knowledge sharing across a large learning community.
To achieve this goal, Monarch Media worked under the leadership of Guardians of Honor (GoH) to design and build a robust digital library. The LSMCE Broadening Participation Digital Library (LSMCE BP DL), as the name suggests, is a web-based repository of documents and resources relevant to increasing participation in STEM fields among the minority student population.
LSMCE partner, GoH, approached Monarch Media to help with developing the infrastructure and layout of their digital library. Over three decades of best practices, data, and results from the LSAMP alliances are now more broadly available and accessible to the public, policymakers, educators, the LSMCE community, and LSAMP and non-LSAMP institutions with programs catering to minority students.
The revamped digital library is user-friendly and utilizes advanced search features based on metadata and tags relevant to LSMCE partners and communities. Users can search records using keywords and advanced search filters for data, elements, and strategies of the LSAMP success model. It also contains reports on performance and impact of the program in LSAMP institutions across all 50 states. These added functionalities make it simple for partner institutions to navigate, search for, and identify information relevant to them.
The LSMCE Broadening Participation Digital Library now serves as a powerful online learning resource for sharing and distributing information. Go to the LSMCE BP DL site.
