Family Transitions: New Beginnings Divorce and Parenting Program
Converting an in-person evidence-based training into an online self-paced program
Family Transitions engaged Monarch Media to help convert their New Beginnings Program – an in-person facilitated parenting program for recently divorced parents – into a mobile-first online training program. They knew that teaching complex parenting skills effectively online wouldn’t be easy, but they wanted the traditionally instructor-led group program to be accessible to a broader audience at an affordable cost. Family Transitions was clear that they wanted to create as much interactivity as possible online. They chose Monarch because of our expertise in developing complex skills training programs that are effective and user-friendly.
Monarch Media began by conducting a thorough instructional design and architectural review to better understand the program participants and their needs. We knew that Family Transitions had limited technical resources for ongoing upkeep, so the new platform needed to be both user-friendly and easy to maintain. Monarch ultimately built an innovative, customized solution using the Thinkific platform. The solution includes integrations with Active Campaign for email and text notifications, Learning Locker LRS for data capture and reporting, and AWS hosting for a database and resource storage.
Our instructional design team successfully restructured the 10-week program into an online experience with over 100 fully narrated xAPI Storyline modules, downloadable resources, and reminder notifications. Monarch led development of both the module content and the platform.
This project was completed in partnership with researchers at ASU and funded by a Small Business Innovative Research Phase II grant. Researchers are now actively using this work to complete a large study of the program’s effectiveness. Their ultimate goal is to develop a model that shows how to help more parents and support the healthy development of their children through the accessibility of an online platform.

When Pearson’s MyEconLab team was looking to develop algorithmic assessments for Mishkin: Economics of Money, Banking and Financial Markets 11e, the leading money and banking textbook, they turned to Monarch Media, Inc. Pearson wanted to supplement the course experience by offering additional conceptual exercises that instructors can assign students for practice and/or tests.
Monarch Media created this interactive iPad App to teach individuals important workplace skills. Leveraging the hands-on format of the iPad, this course enables students to learn in a fun, interactive way.
In 2016, Health Net contracted with Monarch to develop 16 videos to educate members about topics such as Making Your First Premium Payment, Renewing Your Coverage, and How to Set Up Your Online Account. Health Net provided the scripts and Monarch designed the visual storyboards and developed the videos (in both English and Spanish).
Monarch Media storyboarded and created over 20 videos for Health Net in 2015. These videos provide training to Health Net’s Employee Assistance Program (“EAP”) clients, as well as introduce members and supervisors to the available EAP services and benefits. These videos, created in English and Spanish, follow Health Net’s branding and style guidelines, and are posted on Health Net’s member website and its YouTube channel.
The Massachusetts State Police Forensics Services Group is responsible for the collection, analysis and preservation of evidence associated with criminal investigations for the State of Massachusetts. Within this group, the Office of Alcohol Testing (“OAT”) oversees the breath test program for the State of Massachusetts.
